Frequently Asked Questions

Q.     Is MESP an organization only for education support professionals?

A.    Yes, MESP represents the classified employees.  Secretaries, custodians, aides, nurses, bus drivers, maintenance workers, in short all of the support staff.

The teachers of our district have their own association which they are given the option of joining it is called the Marana Education Association (MEA).

Q.    Don’t classified employees automatically belong to MESP?

A.    No, employees must complete an application form in order to be recognized as a member. This is a one-time application; from that point on your membership automatically renews each year.

Q.    How much does it cost to join MESP?

A.    Membership will cost you $293.00/yr if you are a full time employee, less if you work shorter hours. Your dues can be deducted from your payroll in 18 installments starting in September. Which means it is only $ 16.28+/- a paycheck. You can elect to have these dues taken out before taxes which will reduce your tax liability.

When you join MESP you are also joining a larger statewide group called the Arizona Education Association (AEA) and a national group called the National Education Association (NEA). These larger associations assist us and also provide valuable programs to our members. Your dues are broken up as follows:

MESP=$30.50/yr   AEA=$146.00/yr   NEA=$91.50/yr

Q.    If I'm not a member and the need arises, will the Association still represent me?

A.     No, you must be a member to receive benefits.

Q.    Why should I join MESP?

A.    By joining you can be in on negotiating the policies that benefit our members, advocating for your coworkers when issues arise, and we represent our members on district level committees to make sure that our issues are being heard.  We are also involved with political action and by collaborating with AEA & NEA we can be more powerful on state and national levels.

By joining, you will be part of a strong united team that is making a difference not only in your life but also for America’s children.
